Why do I need a handicap?
There are two main reasons.  The golf handicap system is an integral part of the amateur game allowing golfers of differing standards to compete against each other on equal terms. Having a handicap enables you to take part in competitions and adds a lot more fun, purpose and enjoyment to your golf.

The second reason is that the majority of golf clubs worldwide insist on seeing your handicap certificate before you are allowed to play the course as a visitor. In most cases if you can't show a recognised handicap certificate you won't be allowed to play.

Why do I need a FORE Society Handicap?
If you are not a current member of a golf club how can you obtain a recognised handicap? Since June 1997 we have issued over 5300 new handicaps and every day we receive a bundle of scorecards from new members wanting to obtain a handicap and existing members seeking to have their handicap reviewed. The FORE Society handicap is accepted at clubs throughout the UK and worldwide as proof of your playing ability thus enabling you to play their course and it will also enable you to play in events on The FORE Tour.

How do I get a FORE Society Handicap?
Obtaining your handicap card could not be easier - you simply join online, or by Freephone 0800 8818090 or Fax us on 01492 877123 or by FREEPOST. You can either join as a HANDICAP ONLY member for £15 (E30) or as a FULL MEMBER for £25 (40 Euros). Once you have joined The FORE Society you simply send in three completed scorecards from recent rounds, say within the last three months. The cards can be from the same course or from three different courses and they must be signed by another person, not necessarily a society member and he/she does not have to have a handicap.

You must also sign the cards and indicate on each card which tees you have played from and the Standard Scratch Score from those tees (the SSS will usually be printed on the scorecard.)
Send your scorecards to  GMM Ltd, Freepost NWW 1224A, Llandudno, LL30 2ZZ.

How is the FORE Society Handicap calculated?
We adjust the scores on each card so that any score of more than 2 over par at any hole is amended to 2 over par. For example, a 7 on a par 4 will be amended to a 6. If you fail to complete a hole we record a score of 2 over par for handicapping purposes. After these adjustments have been made you will be given a handicap equivalent to the number of strokes by which the BEST of the three rounds differs from the Standard Scratch Score.

How quickly can I obtain a handicap?
As soon as we receive your three scorecards we can calculate your handicap and your Handicap Card will be sent within 48 hours.

Where does the FORE Society Handicap permit me to play?
In excess of 5300 Golfers have obtained a FORE Society handicap and we have never heard of anyone who has not been permitted to play a course due to acceptance of their handicap. The Fore Society handicap is accepted as proof of playing ability at courses throughout the UK and the world.

Can I play in competitions?
You are welcome to play in any of the FORE Tour events. Every competition has its own Terms and Conditions of Entry so you will need to find out from the Organising Committee which handicaps they accept. You will generally need to be a member of a golf club and obtain a golf club handicap to play in club open competitions.
